Florence, birthplace of the Renaissance

Tucked amid the Tuscan hills, Firenze (Florence) is full of a rich history which left us with a vast collection of superb architectural gems.

As the capital city of the Tuscany region, housing 383 thousand inhabitants in its center and over 1.5 million in the metropolitan area, Florence was a center of medieval European trade and finance and one of the wealthiest cities of that era. It sheltered the powerful Medici family and was one of the most important wellsprings of the Renaissance, having inspired artists like Michelangelo (David) and Brunelleschi (the Duomo).

If it weren't for the warm and fashionable Italians and chic shops in Via Tornabuoni, one might feel totally transported into the 14th century. Yet, Renaissance art and History are not the only reasons to buy your ticket to Florence. There are other attractions, such as the peculiar sunsets, the Italian cooking and its inescapable romantic charm.

Places to visit: Uffizi Gallery, Accademia Gallery, Piazzale Michelangelo, Medici Chapels, Florence Duomo (Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore), Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace), Giotto’s Bell Tower and Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge).
